BUSHkids wins support
AS BUSHkids celebrate their 80th birthday and progress closer to opening a new centre in Warwick, community support continues to grow. The new BUSHkids Warwick centre has been given a boost, with two prominent local businesses donating laptops to the Friends of BUSHkids group earlier this week. Ian Mace from Ian Mace Photography and Doug and Greg Roulston presented BUSHkids’s general manager Carlton Meyn with the laptops at a meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Mr Meyn said the generous donations were greatly appreciated and would be a vital part of the new centre, due to be opened in September. “We are very appreciative of these donations, the donors and the Friends of BUSHkids,” he said. “Because we’re opening a new centre, everything has to be different and new. “We have a great database; it will all be linked up with these laptops.” Mr Mace, who is an active member of the Friends of BUSHkids group, said he was proud to support the group which had provided so much support to his family. “My son goes to BUSHkids,” he said. “They’ve been a tremendous help with our little one.” The Roulston’s, who are currently constructing the new centre on Wood St, said supporting BUSHkids was a worthwhile cause. “We’re doing the reconstruction for these guys,” Greg said. “It’s a good cause – they’re great people to work for.” The Friends of BUSHkids group have also been hard at work drumming up support for the organisation, with a calendar full of events and fundraisers in the coming months. “Each of the Friends of BUSHkids groups have been tasked the responsibility of organising the 80th celebrations,” Mr Meyn said. “I have a challenge for the Warwick team to organise a bush dance as well as everything else they have going on.” Joining Mr Meyn at the meeting was the newest members of the BUSHkids Warwick team – occupational therapist Lauren Fitzpatrick. Miss Fitzpatrick, who has moved from the Sunshine Coast to take up the new role, said she was settling into life in Warwick well. “When I saw the job advertised I read up about BUSHkids,” she said. “I like their mission and what they stand for.”
